Report: ACOs to cover 130M lives by 2017

A recent report from Dallas-based Parks Associates, a market research and consulting company, has found the number of lives covered by accountable care organizations will increase from 40 million in 2015 to over 130 million by 2017.

The research firm said business and regulatory changes, as well as the emphasis on performance-based metrics will cause an increase in the formation of ACOs.

"Reforms to the healthcare financial model tie compensation to care outcomes, and ACOs, built on the coordinated care model, align will with this new emphasis," said Harry Wang, director of health and mobile product research at Parks Associates, in a news release.
