Roku Beats Apple TV as Most Used Streaming Video Device According to Poll

Roku has outpaced rival Apple TV for being the most popular streaming media player today. This is according to the latest results of survey conducted by Parks Associates. This may indicate that Apple TV is still struggling in its own field despite recent efforts by Apple Inc to boost it.

The survey involved up to 10,000 respondents. Of those, 37% use and prefer Roku for streaming videos. Apple TV only gathered 24% of respondents. This is not the only interesting findings. According to the study, the use of such devices has significantly improved, specifically doubled, to 14% since 2011.

That’s not all. Parks in its analysis of the study has concluded that connected TV devices would soon be among the most popular products in the country. The polling body predicted overall sales of those gadgets to reach 330 million by 2017. That would be double from what is expected for this year.

Parks’ analyses

Smart TVs remain very expensive. Thus, many households prefer to instead use products like Apple TV and Roku. Aside from being more cost efficient, the devices are less risky and are more financially feasible compared to other options. Among the most popular of those devices today are Apple TV, Roku, and Chromecast from Google.

Analysts from Parks also think that more innovations like next-generation game consoles and ultra-HD TVs would further boost demand for Apple TV, Roku, and Chromecast. Some consumers may also tend to stick with these devices for reliability instead of new products that may soon be released in the market.

Streaming video devices would surely keep their thriving market. It is another big factor that the items could keep their reasonable tag prices. The devices would continue to benefit from prevailing market conditions, according to Parks.
