Room to roam: WiMax puts citywide wireless broadband in sight

Emerging broadband wireless technology gives users more room to roam. It offers flexibility, ease of use and built-in security. WiMax wants to be your wireless everything. With a line-of-sight range of up to 30 miles, WiMax is the next step in the evolution of the wireless local-area network concept of Wi-Fi, which has only a 300-foot reach.

Officials at Parks Associates forecast that about 7 million people will be using WiMax by 2009, but they also said there won't be much volume deployment of 802.16d before 2006.
