Glenn Hower, research analyst at consulting firm Parks Associates, said the content market is moving much more rapidly than the infrastructure market.

Mr Hower spoke to Cable.co.uk at International CES, where a major focus was on 4K or Ultra High Definition television, with a growing amount of 4K content being streamed by providers such as Netflix and Amazon.

Asked if the development of infrastructure for countries across the world to support such data-heaving streaming is an issue, he said: “I think it's absolutely an issue.

“Getting pipes out to residences is an expensive process and I think we've seen that the content market in a lot of ways is moving much more rapidly than the infrastructure market."
