Tech Tuesday: 4K Televisions have arrived. Are they worth it?

Clearly, Best Buy is prepared. But are people ready to pull the trigger? Glenn Hower, a research analyst with Parks Associates, doesn’t think so.

“I think we’re eventually going to get there, but it will probably take some time,” he said.

Hower said the biggest problem, at least for now, is price. The average 4K television costs several times as much as their regular HDTV counterparts, and prices for vanilla HDTV sets continue to fall.

There’s also the matter of having relatively little 4K material to watch.

“There isn’t a whole lot of 4K content available at the moment,” he said. “That will probably develop over the years, but that takes time.”
