The Wired Home: A New World for Telecom Profit

The need for advanced home wiring, also called structured wiring, has skyrocketed over the past couple of years, thanks in part to personal computers and the recent trend toward home-based work sites.  And it is an industry that is expected to boom, particularly as homeowners become more educated about the importance of structured wiring systems and begin demanding it in the homes they buy.

Parks Associates, a Dallas-based market research and consulting firm that specializes in emerging technologies and services for the home, reports that structured wiring systems were installed in 55,000 new single-family homes during 1998.  The firm expects this figure to surge between 350,000 and 500,000 installations in new single-family homes during 2002, with the driving factor being increased builder and consumer awareness about the benefits of advanced home wiring.
