U.S online video users to exceed 190 million by 2017, says Parks Associates

The number of online video users in the United States will climb to 191 million by 2017, up from 175 million this year, according to newly released data from Parks Associates.

The information, released prior to a panel discussion Sept. 26, 2013, at Advertising Week in New York City to be moderated by Heather Way, senior analyst for the research firm, also reveals that there will be nearly 70 million smart-TV households in the United States by 2017.

U.S. broadband homes embrace online video subscriptions, says survey

A new survey of U.S. broadband households reveals that more than four in 10 have a subscription to an OTT video service like Netflix, Hulu Plus or Amazon.

The findings, part of Parks Associates “Video-on-Demand: The Road to Revenues,” indicate 44 percent subscribe to online video services, and that those 18 to 24 years old are most likely to subscribe to OTT services. Among this group, 8 percent have never subscribed to a pay-TV service.

U.S. broadband homes with streaming video device doubles since 2011, says researcher

New research reveals the growing popularity of small STBs, such as Roku or Apple TV, among U.S. broadband households for streaming television content.

According to a new Parks Associates report, "Connected TV: Trends and Innovation," the number of such households with a streaming video media device has doubled since 2011, reaching 14 percent in 2013.

Number of tablet, smartphone owners using TV apps grows, says Parks Associates

New research from Parks Associates finds consumers are developing preferences for TV-content apps as a growing number of smartphone and tablet users take advantage of TV-related apps from networks such as MTV, Nickelodeon and USA Network and apps for shows such as Glee” and “The Walking Dead.”

U.S. tablet owners to increase to 130 million next year, says Parks Associates

The popularity of watching video on media tablets will help to drive the number of U.S. tablet users to grow 61 percent from 2013 to 2014 to more than 130 million people, according to a new forecast from Parks Associates.

Holiday tablet shoppers prefer Apple iPad

Apple continues to lead the pack among media tablet competitors when it comes to consumer holiday tablet preferences, according to new research from Parks Associates.

Europe leads the way to multiscreen for operators

Western Europe is leading the global rush among pay TV operators towards multiscreen services with coverage up more than 80 percent over the past year, according to a survey by Dallas based market research firm Parks Associates. Currently, 66 percent of Western European pay TV subscribers have access to OTT options through a pay TV service, compared with only 36 percent in mid 2011.

OTT digital video receivers grow in popularity among U.S. broadband households

New data from Parks Associates confirms digital video media receivers, such as Apple TV and Roku, are growing in popularity with the latest tally revealing nearly 13 percent of U.S. broadband households now own such devices.
