Mark Cuban bets big on new video-sharing app

"It is not common to announce big partners at launch," said Brett Sappington, director of research at consulting firm Parks Associates. "Often, [startups] are built from the grass roots and only gain big partners after they have built a following. Typically, only larger services receive the attention of a VICE."

Interest in the Surface fell 53% after its price was announced

Consumer preferences in one of this holiday's hottest categories -- tablet computers -- shifted pretty dramatically between the third and fourth quarters, according to a new survey of U.S. households with broadband access published Thursday by Parks Associates.

Among its findings:
For the first time, more U.S. broadband households plan to purchase a tablet for the holidays than a laptop, netbook or Ultrabook.

Pay-TV customers largely unaware of 'TV Everywhere' services

People who closely follow the TV business tend to make a big deal out of the efforts of cable and satellite companies to counter Internet video services like Netflix (NFLX), Hulu, and Amazon Prime (AMZN) with their own so-called TV Everywhere offerings. Pay-TV subscribers, though, don't seem to yet know or care much about TV Everywhere, according to an analyst with Parks Associates.
