Platform Wars Get Scorecard

The terms "ecosystem" and "platform" may be overused, but they are useful to describe today's market. That's because today's top tech competitors all seek a perfect lock-in where their customers love their experiences so much that they want to stay with their vendors as long as possible.

Apple has almost 600 million iTunes accounts; Amazon boasts over 200 million shoppers/customers. Google's Android has more than a billion users, and its search business has twice that number ...read more

As a result, wireless carriers could see their revenues grow from about $204 billion in 2010 to $500 billion in 2015. But they will only hit that peak if they are able to eke out new revenues from two new sources—charging at least some end users by the amount of ...read more

"Probably 80 percent won't be able to claim even two percent market share in a couple years," said Wang. "The Motorola Xoom was my favorite because the specs closely matched the iPad, espe ...read more
