Game consoles more popular streaming devices than dedicated boxes in U.S.

75 percent of U.S. homes that are connected to broadband internet use game consoles to stream non-game content each week, according to a new research report from analyst firm Parks Associates. 

28 percent of broadband-connected homes use consoles as their primary streaming device; Only 12 percent of broadband-equipped homes use a dedicated streaming box such as Roku or Apple TV.

Number of U.S. gamers more than doubled since 2008

According to a new report  from analyst firm Parks Associates, there are now 135 million people in the United States playing games for at least an hour per month, more than double the 56 million gamers reported in 2008.

Most of these new gamers, the firm says, have been attracted by the free to play and social markets, which have captured new audiences on the web, smartphones, and other emerging platforms.

Analyst: Social Gaming Industry To Reach $5 Billion By 2015

Worldwide social gaming market revenues are expected to quintuple by 2015, reaching as much as $5 billion due mostly to advertising revenues and virtual goods sales, according to a new report from market research firm Parks Associates.
