Report: Consumers’ Growing Appetite for Solar, Storage and Bundled Home Energy Services

The number of broadband households that have adopted rooftop solar panels doubled to 4 percent in the period 2013 to 2015. Seven percent of U.S. broadband households said they plan to purchase solar panels in the next 12 months, according to new research from Parks Associates.

Schneider Electric (Finally) Puts Out a Wi-Fi Thermostat

More than two years ago, Schneider Electric revamped its Wiser home energy management offering, hoping to appeal to utilities that might be eager for a comprehensive residential demand response offering.

The percentage of thermostats being sold through retail channels instead of through HVAC dealers has also increased considerably in recent years, while the utility channel is stagnant, according to Parks Associates.

Nest Unveils Its Third-Generation Thermostat Amid Increasing Competition

Although Nest is often touted as the most sophisticated smart-thermostat company, it is facing increased competition from other thermostat makers such as ecobee and Alarm.com that are bolstering their capabilities. Alarm.com Builds Its Own Smart Thermostat

The competition and innovation in the smart-thermostat space is good for consumers, who can choose a thermostat based on which features appeal to them the most, and also because the increased sensoring will likely only drive down heating and cooling needs for homes that use the technology. Apple Will No Longer Sell Nest Thermostats

The Connected Home: Reaching Critical Mass for the Grid?
