Three-Quarters Of Patients Would Use Health Tracker

The fitness tracker sector is estimated to triple from $2 billion in 2014 to $5.4 billion by 2019, according to Parks Associates, a market research and consulting firm specializing in emerging consumer technology products and services. Its research data also found adoption of connected health devices jumped from 24 percent of U.S. households in early 2013 to 30 percent by the end of 2014.

1 In 4 Own A Connected Health Device

Of broadband equipped households across America, one quarter report owning a connected health device.

A recent Parks Associates report found one quarter of Americans living in broadband households report owning connected health devices as well. According to the report, among these broadband equipped households, 29 percent own connected health devices and 12 percent own more than one.

$1.8 Billion Market For Connected Fitness Devices By 2019

Another report showed 40 million Americans use their smartphones to track their fitness. Parks Associates found that one if four heads of household who have broadband internet use apps to track their fitness or caloric intake.

A survey has found a large portion of Americans with smartphones are using them to track their health and fitness through apps.

According to a new survey released by Parks Associates, more than 40 million Americans with smartphones use them to track their wellness or fitness through an app. iHealth Beat reports the survey further found one in four heads of household that have broadband internet also track their fitness or caloric intake through an app.

Video consultations are expected to be used in the homes of more than 22 million families by 2018. Video Consultations To Triple By Next Year

According to Parks Associates, the number of video visits between doctors and patients is expected to triple in the next year. "The number of doctor-patient video consultations will nearly triple from this year to the next, from 5.7 million in 2014 to over 16 million in 2015, and will exceed 130 million in 2018," said Harry Wang, Director, Health & Mobile Product Research, Parks Associates.
