Password Sharing: Charter, ESPN, Viacom Lead Crackdown On Giving Friends, Family Passwords

According to an analysis produced by Parks Associates, about one-third of internet users stream cable TV by using the login credentials of someone they don’t live with. The firm estimated that password sharing would cost the cable industry $3.5 billion this year and as much as $9.9 billion by 2021.

Cable Companies Join Netflix As Users Switch To Streaming Services

According to a report released July, Parks Associates found that 59 percent of U.S. broadband households subscribe to Netflix, Amazon, or Hulu.

Netflix’s deals with pay TV companies helped it surpass expectations in the U.S. market, Cowen & Co analyst John Blackledge told Reuters.

Apple Retains Position As Top Smartphone Maker In America In 2015: Report

"Apple remains the dominant smartphone manufacturer in the U.S., but Samsung is catching up," said Harry Wang -- Director of Health & Mobile Product Research at Parks Associates -- in a press statement.

Apple's arch rival Samsung has nabbed the second position with 31 percent market share, while another South Korean phone maker LG came third with 10 percent, followed by Motorola, HTC and others.

HBO's Web Offering Could Shave 7 Percent Off Pay TV's User Base: Study

HBO's Web-only service could eradicate 7 percent of the pay-TV user base when it debuts this spring, according to a survey released Thursday by the research firm Parks Associates. Roku is once again the top seller of media streaming devices in the U.S., but Google Chromecast is quickly catching up. The dongle slid past Apple TV into the No. 2 spot for sales in 2014, a report this week said.
