Amazon’s Fire TV Cube Makes Its Debut

Another industry insider, Parks Associates’ Brett Sappington, said during the Pay TV Show last month in Denver that Amazon is the only company to get à la carte TV right and that the company could simply begin offering full pay-TV subscriptions as part of its Prime memberships.

OTT Services to Reach 306 Million by 2020

Another research firm, Parks Associates, adds that nearly 60 percent of U.S. broadband homes have used at least one OTT service in the past month, with more than 25 percent of homes using two or more in the past 30 days. Overall, nearly 60 percent of U.S. TV homes subscribe to an OTT service with a monthly fee.

The survey notes 25 percent of all OTT video business in the U.S. started up this year, with 40 percent of all OTT services launched within the last two years.

50% of Those Younger Than 32 Won’t Be Viewing Pay TV in 10 Years

And reports vary on actual cord-cutting numbers. A new report from Parks Associates says 10 percent of U.S. broadband households are now cord-cutters. Connected TV Ads Puzzle Media Buyers

Parks Associates research says in first-quarter 2014, U.S. broadband households watched roughly three hours of online video per week on each of three platforms: mobile phone, tablet and connected TV. Connected TV viewing has rapidly climbed from 2.3 hours per week in first-quarter 2013. Mobile phone and tablet video usage have seen more modest rises.
