Smartphone hypergrowth - we'll be wading knee-deep by 2015

The latest projections, from Parks associates, is for over 2 billion people worldwide owning at least one smartphone in 2015, with unit sales growing over 175 per cent from 2010.

"Smartphones represent a new lifestyle," said Harry Wang, Director, Mobile Research, Parks Associates. "Consumer desire for that lifestyle has accelerated the traditional mobile phone replacement cycle and will drive near-term hypergrowth of the smartphone market."

Snapping the tag': will cameras be driving mobile commerce by 2013?

According to one researcher, phone users are willing to pay for enhancements such as photo-editing capabilities, comparison shopping, and social networking services. Parks Associates claims that fact means that US consumers alone will spend more than $500 million per year by 2013 on imaging applications on their mobile phones.

Billions of bucks to be spent on web video

This one, a study by Parks Associates’ called “Video: Direct-to-Consumer Services” would have us all believe that “TV-based Internet video” receivers and web-enabled CE platforms will drive revenues for premium Internet video services past the US$6 billion mark over the next 5 years."

The report goes on to say that so-called “transactional” money, comprising of direct-to-TV videos, account for 75 per cent of these revenues.

Social network users are the slappers of the Internet world

A new survey from Parks Associates reveals that by comparison with those who frequent social networking sites on the Internet, mobile subscribers are paragons of monogamous rectitude and dog-like faithfulness.

The research shows that users of social networks are promiscuous slappers with zero brand loyalty who cheerfully co-habit with several sites, sometimes one after the other but, at other times, simultaneously!

13 million China broadband users by year-end

U.S. analyst firm Parks Associates said in a new report that it anticipates a thriving market for broadband services in China, estimating the number of users will grow to 13 million by the end of 2003. Broadband users in China grew from 2 million in mid-2002 to 6.6 million at year-end 2002, a 230% growth rate in six months.
