Apple plans to reveal updated TV box in September

Apple is seeking to revive its video ambitions with the new product. Apple TV trails devices from Roku Inc., Amazon.com Inc. and Alphabet Inc.'s Google in the U.S. set-top box market share with only 15 per cent as of the end of March, according to a survey this month from Parks Associates. New startup focuses on filling the gap in smart-home connectivity

Demand is picking up. Sales in eight major categories of networked home products – led by lights, thermostats and video cameras – are expected to reach 25 million units and $3.5-billion by 2018, up from 11 million units and $1.4-billion last year, according to Parks Associates, a research firm.

Who is the biggest techie in the house?

A survey conducted in late 2011 by Parks Associates asked 2,000 adults which products they intended to buy before January 1, 2012. The women planned to buy tablets (18 per cent), laptops (20 per cent) and smartphones (20 per cent). Among the men, however, only 15 per cent intended to buy a tablet, 14 per cent planned to get a laptop and 17 per cent were in the market for a smartphone.
