Parks Associates: Reported home control system ownership among broadband households at 11% in Spain, 9% in the U.K., 5% in Germany

CONNECTIONSTM Europe to address interoperability in IoT during session with ULE Alliance, INSTEON, CameraManager, ZigBee Alliance, and Z-Wave Alliance

New Parks Associates research reports early growth of the Internet of Things (IoT) in Europe, where 11% of Spanish, 9% of U.K., and 5% of German broadband households report ownership of a home control system. The research firm will address smart home and IoT interoperability challenges during CONNECTIONS™ Europe: Monetizing Strategies for the Connected Home, 18-19 November, Mövenpick Hotel, Amsterdam.

"Several alliances have formed recently, including the Thread Group, the Open Interconnect Consortium, and the AllSeen Alliance, to tackle different IoT challenges," said Tom Kerber, Director, Research, Home Controls & Energy, Parks Associates. "These efforts are significant as our European consumer research shows consumers overwhelmingly prefer smart devices that operate as part of a system. Approximately 75% of broadband households in Spain, Germany, and the U.K. prefer smart home systems that interoperate, versus stand-alone devices."

A majority of broadband households in all three countries are interested in smart home systems, including 54% in Germany, 56% in the U.K., and 62% in Spain who are interested in a smart home safety system.

CONNECTIONS™ Europe focuses on entertainment and connected home technology and services. Executives from Ericsson, Sky Deutschland, Deutsche Telekom, and Icontrol Networks will deliver keynotes.

“Consumers expect all of their devices to work together, regardless of when or how they are purchased,” Kerber said. “At CONNECTIONS™ Europe, we will examine the challenges and efforts in realizing that goal."

The session “Innovations and Interoperability: Competition within the Smart Home”  features the following executives:

Avi Barel, Business Development Director, ULE Alliance
