Tom Kerber, Director, Research, Home Controls & Energy, explores the challenges and benefits in building the connected home ecosystem

Tom Kerber, Director, Research, Home Controls & Energy, Parks Associates, will moderate a key session this week at ConnectivityWeek tackling the challenges of building device interoperability in home area networks. The session “HAN Infrastructure, Wired & Wireless,” Tuesday, May 22, in Santa Clara, California, will address the role of standards such as SEP 2.0 and the transition to IP, in particular the factors accelerating this transition and its impact on consumers.

Parks Associates forecasts by 2020, 18-20 million U.S. households will have an IP-connected home management service bundle, which could include home security, energy management, and home monitoring.

Panelists will discuss key developments in the connected home over the next two years, the evolution of the gateway as a key element of the home area network, and the impact of the cloud on interoperability.
