Parks Associates releases new industry research on IoT, home security, smart home controls, energy management strategies, and connected cars

Parks Associates recently released four new industry reports focusing on security systems in broadband homes, APIs in the smart home space, the appeal of connected car and smart home features, and trends driving adoption of connected devices. The new reports provide in-depth analysis of industry trends and consumer research, and include forecasts, business model strategies, and recommendations for players within these key market segments.

“Safety and security are the primary motivators for consumers adopting smart home solutions, so security households show a disproportionate level of ownership for smart home products,” said Stuart Sikes, President, Parks Associates. “While adoption of smart home devices is less than 20% among all U.S. broadband households, adoption is 35% among broadband households with security. Many new value propositions in areas such as energy and connected cars are now building on this foundation.”

Parks Associates consumer research - Smart Home and IoT Adoption among Broadband and Security Households

Parks Associates research finds the most popular smart home devices are networked security cameras, followed by connected lighting and smart thermostats. Over 40% of thermostats sold in 2015 will be smart thermostats. Nearly 25% of vehicle drivers in U.S. broadband households find the ability for a connected car to automatically set a home “away mode” as very appealing.

The following industry research is now available:

The New Face of Home Security – 2015 Edition analyzes the issues, opportunities, and challenges facing the many companies seeking a piece of the U.S. marketplace for security systems and their smart home adjacencies.
