Parks Associates’ New Connected Health Tracker Service Addresses Intersection of IoT and Health & Wellness Markets

Director of Health and Mobile Product Research to Participate in Digital Health Summit at CES® 2016

Parks Associates today announced the Connected Health Tracker Service, a new research service for 2016 that examines consumer adoption and usage of connected health technologies and the innovations driving the health & wellness markets. 360 View: Empowering Healthcare Consumers, a survey project available as part of the service, finds U.S. broadband households are now regularly using fitness apps—almost 75% of smartphone or tablet owners use a health-related app at least once a month.

“The bulk of devices that consumers own are still fitness-related. Adoption of digital health & wellness devices rose to 33% of U.S. broadband households, and fitness tracking devices rose to 10% in 2015,” said Harry Wang, Director, Health & Mobile Product Research, Parks Associates. “Connected medical devices for home use are still low in adoption, and while over 40% of consumers with chronic conditions have used at least one health app, the percentage of daily users is under 5%. Our new Tracker service digs deep into these issues and examines opportunities to expand consumer adoption in these key areas.”

Wang will discuss Parks Associates’ research at the Digital Health Summit at CES® 2016. He will participate in the session “Peak Performance in the Workplace,” January 8, from 3:30-3:55 P.M. at the Venetian Hotel, Level 4, Lando 4304. Speakers include Chris Gibson, Vice President, Marketing and Product Management, Humanscale, and Derek Newell, CEO, Jiff.

“By focusing our research on the consumerism of healthcare and digital disruptions, we will help the industry understand effective engagement strategies, the impact of new technologies, and winning strategies for care providers, device makers, fitness companies, and health programs,” Wang said. “Smartphone ownership boosts health app adoption substantially, so the market needs to leverage these natural connections to extend adoption and dedicated usage to key consumer segments who have heretofore been difficult for the health industry to reach.”

360 View: Empowering Healthcare Consumers shows:

  • 15% of smartphone users have a fitness tracking app that they use at least weekly.
  • 70% of fitness tracker owners use their device’s app at least weekly.
  • More than 50% of smartphone or tablet users look up food, diet and nutrition info via an app at least once a month.
