SDG&E and Alarm.com to Discuss Benefits of "Reduce Your Use" Thermostat Pilot Program at Smart Energy Summit Keynote

Parks Associatestoday announced Alarm.com and utility San Diego Gas & Electric (SDG&E) will discuss opportunities emerging from their groundbreaking cooperative thermostat program in the opening keynote address "Partnering for Success in Home Energy Management" at the fourth-annual Smart Energy Summit, February 25-27 in San Antonio, Texas.

“SDG&E is leveraging a deployed connected device, in this case an Alarm.com thermostat, in this unique program,” said Tom Kerber, Director, Research, Home Controls and Energy, Parks Associates. “This important program could demonstrate new opportunities to both utilities and device manufacturers that will impact energy usage without having to go through lengthy pilot programs. This keynote will provide invaluable perspective to Smart Energy Summit attendees."

Parks Associates, host of Smart Energy Summit: Engaging the Consumer, reports consumer interest in energy-saving devices is increasing, provided the solutions are minimally invasive. Nearly 50% of U.S. broadband households are very interested in a thermostat capable of automatic adjustments to save money. The Alarm.com/SDG&E program is particularly noteworthy as it leverages devices already in the home.

Roy Perry, VP, Ecosystem Alliances, Alarm.com, and Ted Reguly, Director, Customer Programs and Projects, SDG&E, will discuss partnerships and business models that leverage the growing base of connected devices in U.S. homes during their keynote on February 26 at 9 a.m.

“Alarm.com was excited to partner with SDG&E in their innovative 'Reduce Your Use' program and is grateful that SDG&E was willing to implement a DR program that allows open and equal participation by third parties with connected home platforms," Perry said. "It allows customers to strike the balance between the utility’s peak usage reduction and energy-efficiency goals with the customer’s desire for comfort and control.  It’s a win-win for everyone.”

“SDG&E is committed to providing customers with choices and options to take control of their energy use and save energy,” Reguly said. “The Reduce Your Use thermostat program is an excellent example of some of the new ways that our customers are benefiting from in-home energy management technology.”

SDG&E and Alarm.com will share highlights of their joint efforts on the pilot launched in conjunction with a demand response program last year. New solutions in the energy market promise to deliver cost savings to consumers while helping utilities achieve energy-efficiency goals, and the Alarm.com/SDG&E program provides customers who have the Alarm.com’s wireless thermostat with increased credits within the SDG&E demand response program “Reduce Your Use.”
