SES 2014: Demand Response for the Connected Home

While demand response is typically considered a utility-only type of program, the expanding market for connected home devices prompts both utility companies and smart home technology manufacturers to consider demand response solutions for connected device usage. Parks Associates research shows that offering demand response incentive programs to consumers can be instrumental in reducing energy use and adding economic value to energy utilities. Now it is time for technology companies to capitalize on these types of incentives.

In a Smart Energy Summit session on February 19, representatives from CleanTX, EnergyHub, Percepscion, and Schneider Electric discussed the impact of introducing successful demand response programs—beyond those designed purely for energy management—into the connected home market.

Speakers included:

Seth Frader-Thompson, President of EnergyHub

Seth Frader-Thompson oversees the overall direction and operation of EnergyHub, devoting extra focus to creating an exceptional user experience for customers.

Kristian Handberg, Principal Consultant at Percepscion

An engineer by qualification, Kristian Handberg has 17 years experience in clean technology product and market development, and is involved in national and international policy development through affiliations with Monash University and the International Energy Agency.

Yann Kulp, Vice President of Strategy and Business Development, EcoBusiness North America at Schneider Electric

Yann leads the team that created the Wiser Home Management System, focusing on providing energy efficient, reliable & consumer-centric solutions for utilities, builders and contractors.
