Warner Bros. to buy Flixster

by Parks Associates | May. 6, 2011

Warner Bros. home entertainment announced that it has agreed to buy Flixster. Warner Bros. is hoping this acquisition will help consumers organize and discover their favorite movies with the applications on their computers, phones and other devices. The acquisition also includes Rotten Tomatoes, a popular movie review and news site.

Warner Bros. is seeing DVD sales shrink annually as movie fans start to seek out their favorite movies on digital services. To help stop the decline, Warner Bros. is looking to use Flixster's brand to help drive its digital strategy. Their digital strategy will include its 'Digital Everywhere' initiative, similar to its parent company's 'TV Everywhere' initiative. The concept behind the initiative is to allow consumers to use the application to organize and access all their movies, on any device.
