Femtocells Primed for Adoption, or Not

Despite what consumers might say, it isn't clear how strong demand might be for each potential solution. T-Mobile USA, for example, cancelled its 'Hotspot at Home' service, apparently for lack of consumer interest in a service that partly was to improve indoor voice coverage, but also partly a way of stretching the value of voice calling plans. FCC Data Shows Mobile Broadband Growth

At year-end 2008, 25 million mobile wireless service subscribers also had mobile devices (such as laptops and smartphones) with high-speed data plans for full Internet access. Parks Associates estimates are that 46 million U.S. subscribers had mobile broadband connections in 2008, so it is possible the 2009 figures will be quite a lot higher when the FCC reports 2009 numbers.
