Report: 20% of world actively watching online video

Approximately 1.6 billion people worldwide actively watch online video on a variety of connected devices, according to a new report conducted by Parks Associates and co-sponsored by Vindicia and Ooyala.

Meanwhile, an estimated 900 million access TV programming and movies online. That number will swell to over 1.3 billion video viewers by 2019, states the report.

51% of US pay-TV subs want unlimited DVR storage

51% of pay-TV subscribers are very interested in having unlimited space to store DVR recordings, according to new research from Parks Associates.

Currently, over 50% of US broadband homes either include a DVR as part of their pay-TV subscription or have purchased one at retail. The research firm estimates the total number of cloud DVR subscribers in the US will exceed 4.6 million by the end of 2015 and total 24 million by 2018.

Report: 11% of US Netflix subs ‘account sharing’

According to new digital media consumer research from Parks Associates, 11%of Netflix subscribers, 10% of Hulu Plus subscribers, and 5% of Amazon Prime Instant Video subscribers are using an account paid for by someone else.

A new report from Parks Associates suggests that the number of households planning to cancel their pay-TV service (potential cord-cutters) has increased, reaching 7% of US broadband households with pay-TV service.

Low hanging fruit: 17% of US households would go for HBO OTT

17% of U.S. broadband households are likely to subscribe to an over-the-top (OTT) video service from HBO, according a survey of 10,000 US broadband households from Parks Associates.

Among these likely subscribers, 91% are currently pay-TV subscribers, and roughly one-half would cancel their pay-tv service after subscribing to this HBO OTT service. Pay-TV adoption hits 78% of UK broadband households

Parks Associates announced new research today at CONNECTIONS Europe showing pay-TV adoption in Germany and the UK has reached 86% and 78% of broadband households, respectively.

Spanish adoption is much lower, with 47% of broadband households receiving only local broadcast channels.

Broadband households watch 17.4 hours of non-linear per week

New research from Parks Associates shows the average US broadband household now watches more than 17 hours of non-linear video per week, compared to 11.5 hours of linear video.
