Google Chromecast in decline

Research from Parks Associates reports that usage of Google Chromecast appears to be declining while adoption of streaming media players has increased to nearly 20 per cent of US broadband households, up from 14 per cent in 2012.

More Roku owners than Apple TV owners use OTT

Parks Associates has published consumer research showing more Roku owners than Apple TV owners use an OTT service.
The firm’s Streaming CE and Content Purchasing Habits finds 86 per cent of Roku owners compared to 77 per cent of Apple TV owners use a subscription OTT service of any kind. Seventy-five per cent of Roku owners use Netflix, while 63 per cent of Apple TV owners use it.

Research: 4K will grow quicker than HD

Parks Associates has revealed new research predicting 4K TVs will follow a similar, but faster, growth pattern as HDTVs, which have reached 82 per cent of U.S. broadband households after 15 years on the market. The research “4K Today: Bringing Ultra HD to Market” predicts 4K TVs will reach mass-market pricing in the next 2-3 years and top 80 per cent of households in approximately 10-12 years.

OTT biggest video source for young viewers

Over 50 per cent of US broadband households now use paid OTT video services, either subscription or transactional, according to research from Parks Associates. The firm also notes 37 per cent of consumers 18-24 say online video is their most important video source.

Mobile video driving TV apps usage

Research from Parks Associates shows mobile consumption of video is driving usage of TV apps, with 55 per cent of US smartphone owners and 61 per cent of tablet owners using a TV-related app at least once a month.

50% of US broadband homes use OTT

Research from Parks Associates finds subscribers of OTT services spend more per month renting and buying video downloads than the average household, which contributes to the success of Amazon’s business model of integrating transactional services with its Amazon Prime subscription service.
