Other wearable makers vie for spotlight in lead-up to expected Apple launch

Of course, one of the biggest names in the wearable tracker market, Fitbit, seems content to let Apple have the spotlight today — almost. It may not be a coincidence that research firm Parks Associates published data last week re-affirming the company as the market leader, with nearly 40 percent of the market.

Doctor-patient video visits to triple to 16 million next year

According to research firm Parks Associates the number of doctor-patient video consultations in the US will almost triple over the next year.

“The number of doctor-patient video consultations will nearly triple from this year to the next, from 5.7 million in 2014 to over 16 million in 2015, and will exceed 130 million in 2018,” Harry Wang, Director, Health & Mobile Product Research, Parks Associates said in a recent statement.

Almost 1M families used video consultations with physicians last year

The number of households using video consultations with physicians will grow, from 900,000 in 2013 to 22.6 million in 2018, according to a report from Parks Associates.

Parks Associates previously released other data from this report last month, which added that video consultation revenues will grow from under $100 million in 2013 to $13.7 billion in 2018.

Report: Virtual care communication revenues will reach $13.7B in 2018

Twenty eight percent of US broadband households have used some type of virtual care communication tool and nearly 20 percent of smartphone and tablet owners use an app to track or manage their fitness activities, according to a survey from Parks Associates.

The research firm also predicts this figure will increase to 65 percent by 2018 and virtual care doctor-patient video consultation revenues will grow to $13.7 billion.

Connected health market will reach $8B in 2018

The wellness products market generated around $3.3 billion in 2013 and will increase to more than $8 billion in 2018 through product sales and software and service revenues, which is a 142 percent growth, according to a new report by Consumer Electronics Association in conjunction with Parks Associates.

Device manufacturers sold more than 40 million wellness products in 2013, according to the report, and this figure will rise to more than 70 million by 2018.

14M networked medical devices to ship by 2018
