Connected Media Big at CES

Although Apple TV (not present at CES) and Roku control 64 percent of the Internet TV set-top box market according to Parks Associates, dozens of companies want a piece of that business. “Smart TV” products with built-in IP access would seem to obviate the STB category, but hopefuls see two significant opportunities: cable cord-cutters and viewers who do not have Internet-ready TV receivers.

Cable Show Returns to Washington

Across the aisle from The Observatory is “Imagine Park,” now in its third year, a live-events stage where about 40 start-up companies and technology providers will demonstrate early-stage products and introduce new services.

Cisco Survey Touts Mobile Video Boom

Several recent analyses and product announcements at the Barcelona mobile trade show underscore Cisco’s great expectations. For example, Parks Associates, a Texas market research firm, singles out the rapid increase of video viewing on tablets and smartphones, and Ericsson was among the technology suppliers to launch new multiplatform capabilities during the Mobile World Congress.
