103 million US households to have pay-TV by end of year

Over 103 million homes in the US will have pay-TV by the end of 2014, with two thirds of pay-TV subscribers expressing interest in features they currently do not have, according to new research from Parks Associates.

Announced at the Consumer Electronics Show last week, the research found that remote access to DVR content was the most popular among pay-TV households without that service (31%), while 27% said that they are interested in TV Everywhere and 26% in personalised recommendations.

However, in order for the services to succeed, Parks Associates say that providers must increase awareness of their offerings while balancing cost concerns of their subscriber base.

The research firm reports that as it stands, few providers provide remote access to DVR content due to licensing restrictions and there are "tremendous opportunities" for companies with the right market strategies.

Currently, 47% of video consumed on a TV set comes from non-linear sources.
