Industry Forecast Brisk for Residential LAN's

Buoyed by myriad low-cost and easy-to-install computer networking solutions, Parks Associates forcasts that the cumulative valure of the residential LAN market will reach nearly $1.9 billion in 2004.

Aimed at multiple-PC households, which Parks Associates estimates will grow from 18 million in 1999 to 31 million in 2004, PC-to-PC networking solutions will constitute one portion of a larger in-home network market, according to Parks Associates' in-home networks analyst Kurt Scherf.

"We believe that computer networking will be joined by distributed entertainment and home control applications as key drivers to this market," Scherf said.

"More research, however, is needed in this area to discover exactly which products and technologies will deliver the 'killer applications' for this market."
