Poll: Nearly 30% of Broadband Users Own Connected Health Devices

Nearly 30% of U.S. broadband households own and use at least one connected health device, such as a treadmill with built in mobile health application support, according to a Parks Associates survey, Clinical Innovation & Technology reports.
For the survey researchers queried more than 5,000 U.S. broadband households.

Survey Findings

The survey found that 28% of such households have used a digital communication tool -- such as email, online portal, mobile phone and apps, and webcam -- to communicate with their health care providers in the past year. However, average use of a digital communication tool among those households is just three times per year.

In addition, the survey found that 13% of respondents indicated plans to purchase a connected health device within the next 12 months.

Harry Wang, director of health and mobile product research at Parks Associates, in a statement said, "The most popular connected health devices are treadmills, exercise bikes and ellipticals" that "come with built-in support for mobile health apps, which effectively merges the demands of mobile and healthcare consumers".
