Too much TV? Enter HBO Max, the latest streaming wannabe

“People are going to look at the price point first,” said Steve Nason, research director at Parks Associates. HBO Max costs $15, same as the HBO Now streaming service it’s supposed to replace, with discounts after the launch limited to some AT&T customers as well as a one-week free trial. Other new streaming services such as Disney Plus and Quibi launched with cheaper prices and bigger discounts.

Apple unveils new TV box for renting movies, shows

Kurt Scherf, an analyst with the market-research group Parks Associates, said requiring consumers to buy yet another box for the living room "is a real inhibitor."
And although he praised Apple's decision to lower the price of the device itself, he had doubts about TV rentals for 99 cents.

Analog TV shutdown kills free cell-phone TV

The common denominator for the existing services is that they cost money, limiting their adoption. AT&T and Verizon Wireless charge $15 per month for 10 channels. Sprint bundles MobiTV with some high-end plans and charges $9.99 per month as standalone service.

Research director John Barrett at analysis firm Parks Associates points to the fees as a problem, and recommends that operators provide free content.
