Google Releases Ethernet Adapter for Chromecast

Google's Chromecast allows users to stream audio and video content from their laptop, smartphone and other mobile device directly to a TV via WiFi. Google Chromecast Will Enable Mobile Devices to Stream Games to TVs

The new support for gaming apps could boost Chromecast's popularity even further. Released in July 2013, Google's $35 to $40 Chromecast is currently only second behind Roku in terms of market share in the streaming media segment.

Market numbers released by Parks Associates in December showed Roku holding a 29 percent share of streaming media sales, followed by Google Chromecast with 20 percent.

Google Cast Streams Audio From Mobile Devices, PCs to Speakers

With Google Cast, Google is clearly hoping to replicate the success it has enjoyed so far with Chromecast. Google released the $35 media streaming stick in July 2013 as a cheaper alternative to media streaming technologies from Roku, Apple TV, NetGear and others. Connected Cars Show Great Promise, but Safety, Security Worries Persist

Still other benefits are that the cars could encourage more ridesharing (and thus decrease pollution), and create new opportunities for people with limited mobility.

Currently, 10 percent of vehicles include built-in connectivity. Parks Associates has forecast that by 2017, 47 percent of new vehicles will include embedded cellular modules by 2017.

Verizon Launches Mobile Telehealth Clinics in Miami

Telehealth is a becoming more of an accepted alternative to in-person office visits. About 17 million U.S. broadband households, or 1 in 5, say they would participate in a live chat with health experts, according to a July 23 report by research firm Parks Associates. FDA Clarifies Plans for Mobile Health App Regulation

Wellness, fitness and medical resource apps will also not be regulated, noted Jennifer Kent, a research analyst at Parks Associates.

"Medical apps with low-risk to consumers, such as an e-book of medical information, will not be worth the FDA's time," Kent told eWEEK in an email.
