The U.S. tech support sector is worth about $30 billion annually, according Reuters citing research by Parks Associates. HelloTech’s competition includes the Geek Squad, which is run by electronics retailer Best Buy.

Apple TV could be star of Wednesday's show

The bigger problem facing the new Apple TV could be its price, analysts said. Reports suggest that Apple will price the device at $150. That's not only $50 more than what the company charged for its previous Apple TV, until it discounted it earlier this year, but it's $100 more than what the streaming sticks are selling for.

Nest: If appliances don't talk, homes aren't smart

The smart home isn’t here yet — and won’t be — until devices in homes can talk to each other, said Nest Labs' Mike Soucie.

Soucie co-founded Revolv, a company that looked to act as a hub for controlling lights, locks and speakers in the home. Nest acquired Revolv, and he now acts as Nest's head of consumer product partnerships. Tech giant Google Inc. acquired Nest in 2014.

Roku dominates streaming devices, but Chromecast overtakes Apple TV, report says

In the first three quarters of 2014, 10 percent of U.S. households equipped with broadband bought streaming-media devices, according to a new report by market research firm Parks Associates.

The firm said Tuesday that while Roku's lineup of set-top boxes and streaming sticks remained the leading brand with 29 percent of global sales in the first nine months of 2014, Google Inc.'s Chromecast had a share of 20 percent and Apple Inc.'s Apple TV took 17 percent of the market.

Roku reported to be working on confidential IPO filing

A report over the summer from Parks Associates showed Roku and Google's Chromecast were the two most popular streaming devices sold in the U.S. in 2013, moving about 3.8 million each. Apple was No. 3, selling a little over 2 million of its Apple TV boxes.

Nest cracks open platform to third-party developers for smarter homes

Research firm Parks Associates found that half of U.S. households with broadband Internet connection will own at least one smart-home device by 2022, a 12 percent jump from current numbers.
