Younger Generation Embracing Smart Energy

New research on the Internet of Things (IoT) found that young consumers, people with children, and individuals who have owned their homes for three to four years are the top adopters of Internet-connected energy devices. Parks Associates’ “Home Energy Management Adopters” study reports that more than 10 percent of United States broadband households headed by a 25-34-year-old have at least one smart home energy management device.

Backers propose standard for home networking

Kurt Scherf, vice president at Parks Associates, agrees that G.hn has come a long way. “It’s clear the technology has made substantial progress over last year with respect to standard development and moving toward delivering its first commercial product,” said Scherf. “I would expect a significant impact on the market with products expected to emerge in 2010.”

More than 8 million smart meters installed in US

The share of smart meters in the United States has grown to more than 6 percent of the total – up from 4.7 percent at the end of 2008 according to Parks Associates, a research firm. To date more than 8.3 million of the devices have been installed.
