Sharing a Netflix password is still piracy – but everyone does it

The answer is actually no, but that doesn’t mean it’s not prevalent. According to a study done by Parks Associates earlier this year, 57 percent of U.S. households access an over-the-top video account — meaning streaming services like Netflix, Hulu, or HBO Go — but 11 percent of Netflix subscribers, 10 percent of Hulu Plus subscribers and 5 percent of Amazon Prime Instant Video subscribers are using an account paid for by someone else.

What Aereo should do to stay alive and innovate the TV industry

Parks Associates, the International Market Research firm recently released a report showing that “over 45 percent of US pay-TV subscribers find cloud DVR technology very appealing.” The research also pointed out that the Aereo case “left licensing for cloud DVR rights largely unaffected,” essentially paving the way for innovation to happen.

Japan’s DoCoMo hits 10 million LTE subscribers, doubling its numbers in 6 months

There’s little doubt that Japan, the US and Korea — where SK Telecom has 7.5 million LTE users — are three of the world’s most developed 4G markets, even if confirmed figures are difficult to come by.

LTE gathers pace in Japan as DoCoMo’s Xi service hits 5m users, adding 1m in 4 weeks

A report estimated that the worldwide shipments of 4G smartphones and tablets would reach 61 million units this year, while data from Parks Associates predicts that there will be 50 million LTE device subscriptions active.

Asia is very much a driving force at this stage, and both reports emphasise that the continent — and Japan and Korea in particular — is a key market for early LTE subscriber growth and sales.

LG accelerates past 5m LTE device sales after selling 1m in July alone
