Amazon is best hope of a viable alternative to iPad
For every 10 tablets sold, five netbook or notebook sales will be lost in developed markets, it estimates, limiting notebook growth to 8 per cent year-on-year in 2011, and pushing netbooks into a decline of 13 per cent, to 34 million units. Many areas – especially the US, western Europe, China and Indonesia – will suffer from overstocked retail channels for mobile PCs, although the iPad's impact on emerging markets will remain minimal.

Femto World Summit is all smiles (mostly)
"The mobile data boom - and the increased demand on capacity it has led to - is the biggest challenge currently facing mobile networks," said Simon Saunders, chairman of the Femto Forum. "Femtocells represent the natural solution for offloading this data. They allow mobile operators to significantly improve the mobile broadband experience as well as their other services without incurring the costs that macro upgrades would require."

Give people back more time and they will buy your IPTV
On the content side this isn't exactly a secret, given that bartering of live sports rights have formed the basis of pay TV wars for the past 20 years at least.
But it is true that in US surveys, notably those carried out by Parks Associates, the main reason for buying into a triple play bundle has usually involved the saving of $20 or more per month, and that’s perhaps what Microsoft is trying to get away from.
Screen Digest concludes that more than 60 per cent of consumer ...read more

Buyers said to favour a la carte music in 2005
Napster and co. will have to work much harder if they're to convince music buyers that subscription services are worth the money.
That's the conclusion of research conducted by market watcher Parks Associates. Its Global Digital Living survey reveals that only eight per cent of people who own MP3 players and possess an Internet connection are likely to use a music subscription service this year.
By contrast, around 40 per cent said they are likely to buy songs on a one-off ...read more

802.11a comes out fighting
...But the real prize will be a mass home market. According to recent research from Parks Associates, home networking will be a $12bn business in the US alone by 2008, while In-Stat/MDR is more cautious, predicting $17.1bn globally by the same date, split about equally between the US, Asia and EMEA. Both companies believe the Microsoft XP Media Center and the PC will be the key drivers and that Wi-Fi will be the primary network.
