European entertainment and Internet of Things research from Parks Associates shows more than 40 per cent of broadband households in Germany and Spain own a smart TV, while UK adoption of smart TVs is 33 per cent.

55% of US broadband homes subscribe to OTT

“Over 50 per cent of US broadband households have at least one TV series that they ‘never miss,” said Glenn Hower, Research Analyst, Parks Associates. “Offering multiple content options is increasingly important as more consumers turn to connected CE and mobile devices for their video, audio, and other media needs. Most US homes stream content through games consoles

Parks Associates research shows that 46 per cent of US broadband households have a game console connected to the Internet and over one-quarter (28 per cent) use the connected gaming console as their primary connected CE device. Among these primary console users, roughly three-quarters use the gaming console to access non-gaming content online at least weekly, and nearly 40 per cent access such content for more than 10 hours per week.

45% + of US pay-TV subs want cloud DVRs

Over 45 per cent of US pay-TV subscribers find cloud DVR technology very appealing, according to research from Parks Associates. The report notes that consumers show particular interest in unlimited storage space and two-week catch-up services for video. With the Supreme Court omitting cloud DVR in its 2014 Aereo ruling, pay-TV providers can experiment with these cloud services as strategies to build subscriber loyalty and increase revenues.

Roku top US streaming media player

A report from research firm Parks Associates suggests that more than 25 per cent of US households will have a streaming media player by 2015, with continued robust sales and new entries such as Amazon Fire TV driving expansion of this connected CE category. Travellers, Avid Viewers, and Multiscreeners consume most video

Consumer research and analysis from Parks Associates suggests that three out of seven unique consumer segments account for the majority of mobile video viewing, averaging nine hours per week on a smartphone or tablet compared to less than 15 minutes per week for the remaining four segments. The average among all US broadband households is 2.9 hours per week, and these three groups represent less than one-third of all homes.

34% US broadband households have Smart TV

According to research from Parks Associates, Smart TV adoption increased by 31 per cent in one year so that now over one-third of US broadband households have a Smart TV.

Parks Associates analysts report that over 70 per cent of Smart TV owners have the device connected to the Internet.
