Free live TV is coming to your smartphone and tablet

Would you like to watch live network TV on your smartphone or stream a movie? The answer is probably yes to both.

Later this year, watching live television on mobile digital devices will become a reality for more than 90 stations in 35 markets, including Dallas.

DirecTV talks with Fox, Belo could lead to disruptions

Local broadcasters are seeking to boost revenue at a time when their industry is undergoing a transformation driven by digital media, said Kurt Scherf, principal analyst at Parks Associates, a research and consulting company in Dallas.

“They’ve seen local ads take a hit because of the Internet and other media, such as Craigslist and so forth,” he said. “Their argument would be that they just want their fair due from the operators.”

Apple's Steve Jobs to Unveil iCloud Service Today for Digital Music

Legal challenges could hold back ‘cloud computing'

"Content owners are a little hesitant to jump into this new model because it is disruptive to their distribution models currently in place," said Laura Allen Phillips, research analyst for Dallas-based Parks Associates.

Parks Associates, a market research and consulting firm, is relocating to Tollway Plaza II at 15950 North Dallas Parkway in Dallas, where it leased 6,557 square feet of office space. Connected future’ envisioned for electronic devices

A report published Tuesday by Dallas-based research firm Parks Associates found that 29 percent of the tablets sold in 2010 had built-in 3G connectivity, but it forecast that more than half of tablets sold in 2015 will have such a connection built in. More than half of mobile subscribers will be paying for a high-speed 3G or 4G connection by 2015, Parks said.

Smart phones and tablets becoming video game machines

But those types of blood-and-guts, in-depth titles are the exception rather than the rule on smart phones and tablets, said Pietro Macchiarella, a research analyst who tracks the video game industry for Dallas-based Parks Associates.
