TV Everywhere Gains Momentum, But Making Money is Elusive

"TV app usage is altering the use cases for multiple connected devices; currently 57 percent of connected game console owners are using the device to watch TV shows," said Stuart Sikes, president at Parks Associates. Transition to Online Video Will Not be Gradual When it Happens

To be sure, perhaps 45 percent to 50 percent of U.S. broadband households now use paid over-the-top (OTT) video services, either subscription or transactional, according to Parks Associates. That is up slightly over about a year’s time.

Including “free” sources such as YouTube, perhaps 70 percent of Internet users watch at least some over the top video.

Will Car Phone History Apply to Connected Car?

Just how big a market connected car services might provide for mobile service providers is not clear yet, though some surveys suggest it might be significant.

A consumer survey by Parks Associates has found that 33 percent of U.S. broadband households are “highly interested” in connected car features that include the ability to listen to online music and audio.

U.K. Households Desire Mobile Security Alerts

At least, that’s what many households in the U.K. are saying to their service providers, as research from Parks Associates has found that over 40 percent of broadband households want to receive alerts on their mobile devices should anything go wrong at home.
