Chromecast adds Hulu Plus; 34% of device owners stream free Hulu to TV

Consumer research firm Parks Associates today said more than one-third of Google Chromecast owners (34%) stream video content from Hulu to their TV set every day.

That’s a no-no because Hulu content isn’t licensed to be shown on TV.

“Chromecast is giving people in Hollywood headaches right now,” said John Barrett, director, consumer analytics at Parks. “All the wrangling over licensing restrictions doesn’t mean much if consumers can simply circumvent them.”

Video discovery frustrates consumers; TVE still unknown to most

TV Everywhere, which is now available to more than 90% of pay-TV households in North America, according to Parks Associates, remains a relative unknown among subscribers.

More than half (52.2%) of respondents didn’t know whether their provider offered TV Everywhere, and a whopping 68% had not downloaded the TVE app.

Survey: Roku more popular for streaming than Apple TV

A new survey of consumers suggests Roku is more popular than Apple TV for streaming video content. Researcher Parks Associates said it surveyed 10,000 U.S. broadband households and found 37% of those with a streaming media device primarily use a Roku box, while just 24% use Apple TV.

Recent news reports say Apple TV has sold far more of its device than Roku, about 13 million Apple TVs through 1Q2013, compared to 5 million Rokus.
