PlayStation 4 takes fight to the next level

Sony's main office remains in Japan, but the 1-million-square-foot office campus in San Mateo is the headquarters for development and marketing for the PlayStation platform for all the Americas. While the PlayStation holds the advantage in sales globally, Xbox has the edge in the lucrative North American market, said Brett Sappington, director of research for Parks Associates of Dallas.

Wire's new call center to hire up to 500 here

2Wire is poised for more growth as the telecom providers it serves move into the TV business, analysts said. By 2010, about one in six U.S. households will subscribe to video service provided by a phone company, said Kurt Scherf, who tracks the company for research firm Parks Associates in Dallas.

"With this new service center, 2Wire is laying the groundwork for what they're expecting to be strong future growth," he said.

SBC is linking up with Barnes & Noble to provide Wi-Fi

The Wi-Fi market is growing quickly. Last year, the worldwide market hit $1.3 billion, and this year it's projected to top $1.8 billion, according to the Wi-Fi Alliance, a trade organization.

An estimated 5 million U.S. households will have high-speed wireless Internet access by the end of this year, according to Parks Associates, a research group in Dallas.
