LG, Razer among wearable tech converts

The wearable technology trend won't likely wear thin in 2014.

More gadget makers are jumping in, with wearable health and wellness product revenues expected to rise from $3.3 billion in 2013 to $8 billion in 2018, as estimated by research firm Parks Associates and the Consumer Electronics Association.

Smartphones drives connected, mobile CE adoption

Roughly one-third of German and French broadband households and 45 percent of UK broadband households have purchased a smartphone in the last six months, according to a study by Parks Associates European. Parks Associates Highlights Smartphone/Tablet User Research

New research from Parks Associates shows consumers are developing preferences for TV-content apps as more smartphone and tablet users are using TV-channel apps from networks and apps for shows.

In a release, the Company noted that the firm finds 14 percent of smartphone/tablet users surveyed in 1Q 2013 have recently used a TV- content app and nearly 75 percent of these users are satisfied with this app experience.

Emmys boost is latest lift for Netflix

While that debate simmers, viewers are increasingly turning to mobile devices, where entertainment downloads are often free or very cheap. About 14 percent of mobile device owners watched television on them in the past six months, according to a new survey by researcher Parks Associates. Report: Apple iPad Lights Kindle's Fire

New Consumer Analytics research from Parks Associates indicates consumers continue to prefer Apple over the other top brands in tablets, with 44% of holiday tablet shoppers planning to purchase an iPad 2 versus 24% opting for the Kindle Fire. The Microsoft Surface comes in at 21% with the Google Nexus last at 12%.

Verizon Launches TV Channels for iPad

The Verizon project marks another volley in the competition with rival Bright House Networks.

Last year, Bright House started offering several dozen live channels on tablets -- including A&E, Discovery, Lifetime, CNN and the Disney Channel -- a system that also only works inside the customer's home.
